Man Utd talent now helping others following mental health struggles after losing dad at 13

During my time at the Mirror, I have managed to produce several exclusives. But I reflect on this particular one pretty fondly. I spoke to former Manchester United trainee Will Mellors-Blair for a piece surrounding mental health and its importance in football.

Pieces like this are crucial for the Mirror’s brand and the belonging project, which we have tried to expand and produce as much content as possible for. I interviewed Will and spoke to him for around 15 minutes on the record, before having an off the record chat about life and his career. I wanted to angle this piece on his personal mental health (after openly speaking about it before) and how it has impacted his career.

Fortunately, Will was open to speak about it and it helped me build a really powerful feature, focusing on mental health and his own battle with it. Despite him spending just a short time at Man Utd, I wanted to include that in the headline, as I knew the piece would have more chance to perform better with that being the case.
