After becoming the top scorer in the top seven divisions of English football, I decided to speak to Jonathan Margetts of Matlock for an exclusive interview. I felt as though as we could create a strong headline and get good traffic from this piece, despite it being a non-league footballer. I spoke to Jonny on the phone for around 30 minutes, with 15 of those being on the record.

I managed to get his contact through a friend of mine, and he was kind enough to spare me his insights which provided enough for a piece looking at his recent form and career. I chose to intro the piece on Pep Guardiola, however. I did this because his quote was relevant and using a big name to start the story would help to entice the reader further in. 

As for the headline, using Erling Haaland’s name was critical. Margetts has scored more goals than every striker in the top seven divisions, meaning he has scored more goals than arguably the best and most high profile centre forward in the country. Quickly, the reader would be enticed to think: ‘who is this?’. That is the reason behind the HL.
