Ahead of Manchester United’s crucial Champions League trip to Copenhagen in November, I was tasked to write the talking points from the match. During the first-half, there was plenty of action. United raced into a two-goal lead thanks to a Rasmus Hojlund brace, while Jonny Evans limped off with an injury inside 10 minutes. Both made for two relatively easy talking points, before my third came when Marcus Rashford was sent off.
Copenhagen pulled a goal back through Mohamed Elyounoussi, before Diogo Goncalves levelled from the penalty spot just before half-time. Bruno Fernandes regained the lead for United, also from 12 yards. As both sides’ penalties were controversial, I decided to write my fourth talking point on that. The Red Devils, however, collapsed and conceded two late goals as Copenhagen flipped the game on its head.
That was a dramatic ending for me, as I had to switch the intro around to suit the new narrative, as well as writing my fifth talking point – which was about United’s late collapse – adding pictures in, requesting a banner, thinking of a headline before the full-time whistle.
Crucially, I managed to publish right on the final whistle. That is important to ensure the reader clicks on your report first, and that it stands the best chance to rank high on Google . I tweeted the piece using three of the talking points with emojis, as well as a summary of the result and the link.
